God is on the Move!

Sometimes God seems silent and it feels like He’s not really working. Other times, God breaks His silence and He shows up and shows off for His glory. That is the kind of season I’m in. Thank you, Jesus!

Within the span of two weeks, the Lord swung the door wide open so that I could speak to a group of Christians at the United Nations and then He allowed me to briefly share my testimony at Times Square Church at the 6pm service last Sunday!

I’m still in awe that the Lord would allow me to speak at all! To get to speak at the UN and Times Square Church is just incredibly wonderful to me!

Those who know me well know that I don’t need the spotlight. I’m happy chatting one-on-one with folks or being anonymous behind my computer. But when God opens up a door for me to speak about Him to groups (including on street corners here and abroad), I’m delighted to do so for my Heavenly Father.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, there is no better place to be than in the center of God’s will for your life!

Last Sunday evening, God saw it fit for me to speak in front of my new church family. It was a rainy, Sunday evening. I would have been content if just 20 people showed up. From this screenshot below, you can see that the church was packed on the main floor and balcony!

What a thrill to get to speak to this beautiful and diverse group of people and to all those who were watching at the North Jersey campus and online! It was truly an honor and privilege.

I’m touched by how warm, friendly, and engaged the people were as I spoke. And from the beautiful comments I received from the Pastors, leaders, and others afterward, it seems like folks were blessed by what I shared. Praise God!

I’m looking forward to all that God has in store for me in this season. As I’ve said in the past, I’ll keep speaking as long as God keeps giving me something to say! If you’d like me to come speak to your church, school, conference, retreat, or outreach event, you can learn more by clicking here.

I hope my story encourages you that waiting on God and obeying Him is not in vain. I pray that God will give you the strength, grace, patience, endurance, courage, and faith to live out the unique plan He has for your life! Blessings!

Letting God Lead! (Revisited)

When God opened the door for me to appear on the show “Open” on BronxNet last August to talk about my book Waiting on God Well, I prayed and went. It was a different type of mission field. But as long as God was there, I was fine. I couldn’t have asked for a more gracious host than Bob Lee! He even let me pray on air! Glory!

I hope you’re encouraged by taking another look at the interview and the original “Let God Lead” blog post from last year.

Blessings to you as you Wait on God Well!

5 Tips for Christian Speakers

5 Tips for Christian Speakers

The Lord is opening up more doors for me to speak lately, praise God! It’s always a blessing to get to talk about God and to encourage others in a group setting or while out on evangelism outreaches!

It’s so rewarding to have people say that they were blessed by the words I shared. Some have been moved to tears and have said they were touched because what I said was exactly what they needed to hear.

A sister-in-Christ recently gave me one of the best compliments I could ever hope for. After hearing me speak she said, “That was not you speaking. That was God.” Glory to God!

Our goal as speakers should not be to draw attention to ourselves, but to Jesus. He is the One who died on the Cross for our sins and gave us the gift of eternal life with our Heavenly Father.

We are His ambassadors and witnesses. Our message should point people back to God and His love for us!

If you’re being called to speak in your small group or even to larger groups, I’d like to share a few lessons I’ve learned along the way.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re speaking to 10 people or want to speak to 10,000, your preparation should still include:

Remaining Prayerful  Pray as you prepare your message. Pray for those who will be listening. Ask God to give you the right words to share and to help you share them with the right heart and attitude. As you practice what you’re going to say, ask the Lord to show you which Bible stories, points, and personal testimonies should stay and which should be cut. Jesus should be the center and hero of your message. Don’t forget to pray right before you give your message. If you have prayer partners, ask them to pray for you as well!

Knowing Your Audience  Learn as much as you can about who you will be speaking to. Is the group composed of mature believers, new believers, seekers, or mixed? What is their average age? Will males and females be in the audience? Ask your host what topics the group has been studying lately or what issues the group members have been struggling with. This information will help you as you decide which stories or verses to share and will help you share a timely word with them.

Being Sensitive to the Holy Spirit  Even after you’ve prepared, let the Holy Spirit take the lead. You’ll find yourself sharing parts of your testimony or Bible verses you didn’t plan on talking about. That’s fine. Have a plan for your message, but remain flexible. And remain calm if you find people shedding a few tears. Let the Holy Spirit do His work.

Being Prepared in Season and Out of Season  You never know when you’ll be handed the microphone in a prayer meeting or asked to share a testimony at a gathering, so it’s important to continue spending time with the Lord on a daily basis. It’s out of that ongoing relationship with Jesus that you will find fresh words to say. The Holy Spirit will bring things to your remembrance at the right time!

Arriving Early  It’s always good to arrive at the meeting place a bit early so you’re not in a rush and flustered. You’ll have time to compose yourself, get familiar with the space, and ask your host any last minute questions. You might want to pray before the place starts filling up or greet a few of the guests as they arrive. As the time gets closer for you to speak, remember to get quiet before the Lord so you can hear any last minute instructions.

Having Fun!  Here’s a bonus tip, remember that in the presence of the Lord there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11) and that the joy of the Lord is our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). Give your nervousness to the Lord. It’s a privilege and honor to speak about the King of kings! Smile, laugh, and interact with your audience. If you start to cry while sharing your testimony, that’s ok. You’re human. Shed a few tears, but keep going! Be yourself and share the message that God has placed in your heart with love and compassion for your listeners. Amen!

Reflections on Speaking Up

microphone-1261793_960_720

The Lord continues to open doors for me to speak about Him, and I am excited! This is part of what I’ve been Waiting on God Well for during these last couple of years.

I didn’t know how, or when, or really even what I wanted to say. I just knew that God was calling me to write and speak for His glory.

A few weeks ago, the Lord allowed me to once again run the service at Central Delaware Trinity Covenant in Upstate, NY. What an honor! It was great to visit my college friend and the folks at her church. It’s a blessing to get to do even simple things like choosing the bulletin for that Sunday’s service. It’s a privilege to get to lead the service, bring the sermon, and fellowship with the congregation afterward.

The following Saturday, the Lord allowed me to visit my friends at Woodcrest, the nursing home where my friend, Chaplain Jamary, runs a beautiful Bible study and service. My friends at Woodcrest were the first small group to study Waiting on God Well. They are the first small group to be reading Abounding Faith. It was a bit surreal to join them as they studied my book! I was encouraged to hear their thoughts about that week’s Bible character, Paul. It was also a blessing to get to worship with them and speak to them during the service time.

I’ve also gotten to speak to Connect Group leaders from Every Nation NYC and got to run the Prayer Breakfast that my friends at Queens NY AGLOW held yesterday where Elder Barbara Chisholm of Perfecting Faith Church was the guest speaker.

I don’t take all of this lightly. Speaking about God and to His people is an honor! Now I’m starting to see why He’s been taking so much time and care preparing me for this season of my journey. I certainly didn’t get here overnight. And I still have a long way to go and lots to learn, but I’m delighted that the Lord would allow me to be His ambassador and witness through the written and spoken word.

I’ll be sure to share lessons I’m learning along the way. For now, I’d like to thank you again for being on this journey with me! God is moving! I’d like to remind you that God loves you more than you know! He loves you more than you can even imagine!

God wants to speak to you through His Word, the Bible. The Bible is God’s love letter to you and your instruction manual:

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

I hope you are taking time to soak in God’s presence. That’s where He’ll reveal His plans for you and give you the grace to make it through your day, week, and life!

I look forward to sharing more with you about my speaking journey!

If you’re having an event or gathering and would like me to come speak to your group, I’d be delighted to learn more about it! Please visit my speaking page for more information.

Blessings to you as you take steps forward in your faith journey!
