3 Keys to Waiting on God Well

WOGW FB profile pic

What are you waiting on God for? Are you frustrated or anxious because you don’t see God moving in your life? Are you tempted to give up and walk away from all that God has promised you?

Don’t quit in the middle of your journey!

I wrote Waiting on God Well: How to Prevent Breaking Down on Your Way to Your Breakthrough! (Available on Amazon) after a long season of waiting for breakthroughs in various areas of my life. I’m delighted to hear how it has blessed readersWaiting on God Well provides insightful tips, practical action steps, and inspiring Bible verses to encourage you to keep walking through whatever valley, desert, or wilderness you are in.

I’d like to share three keys to help you through your waiting season. They are adapted from my book Waiting on God Well.

Abide in Christ – We are built for fellowship with God. Time spent alone with our Savior and Creator is priceless. There is nothing like slowing down and just being with God. After all, He’s the only one with all the answers. He is our loving Heavenly Father. He is the Author of our life and He is the Master Storyteller. There is no set formula for what you should do. You could quietly read your Bible. You could be on your knees, praying. You could sing your cares away along to praise music or scribble your heart out in your journal. You could cry tears of sadness or joy, or you could just sit in the silence, knowing that Jesus is right there with you.

As Jesus says, “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing” (John 15:5 KJV).

Praise Him Before the Triumph – It’s easy to praise God after the battle is won, but it takes faith to praise God before the victory! I’d like to think all of heaven takes notice when you praise God while you’re still in the storm. The more you magnify God, the smaller your problems will seem. It will help you keep things in perspective. It may seem odd to you at first, but don’t worry. We were made to praise God. Lament if you must. Worship with tears in your eyes if you have to. But remember to bless the Lord at all times. Even in the midst of your trial.

“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice” (Philippians 4:4 KJV).

Lean into Your Community – The enemy would like nothing more than to keep you isolated. Resist the urge to be a lone ranger. Reach out to others—even if it’s not comfortable for you. There is healing when you share your life stories and concerns with others. There is growth when you allow others to come alongside of you on your life journey. There is something so rich that comes from trading your “war stories.” You might find there are others going through similar battles. No church or family is perfect, but God has placed particular people in your life to share laughs with, get wise counsel from, and bounce ideas off of. It’s no coincidence that they are in your circle of friends. Women need a group of sisters around them. Men need a band of brothers.

“Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend” (Proverbs 27:17 KJV).

Waiting on God Well’s 1st Anniversary!

WOGW Final Collage

What a year it’s been since the release of the printed version of my first book Waiting on God Well: How to Prevent Breaking Down on Your Way to Your Breakthrough!

I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported my book! I’m touched to hear how Waiting on God Well has blessed you! Thank you to everyone who has bought the book for themselves, written reviews about it, and bought copies of the book to share with friends.

Writing can be a solitary experience, so it’s great when I can celebrate with others. I love that this book has touched people of different backgrounds, ages, and both women and men.

We’re all waiting on God for something, right? I’ve heard stories of folks waiting for a new job, for their spouse to come to the Lord, to meet their significant other, and others waiting for healing in their bodies, etc… Some have said they couldn’t put the book down once they started reading it. Others have thanked me for including the Power Verses and the Action Steps at the end of each chapter.

I love what the Lord is doing in and through people as they read Waiting on God Well! Here’s just a sample:

  • Waiting on God Well was quite insightful and encouraging. It gave some very practical tools that can help us continue waiting on the Lord and not give up!” – Pastor Lillian Gutierrez, Love Gospel Assembly
  • Waiting on God Well is a good and simple read with excellent scriptural references/meditation and (my favorite), the action steps. They’re so HELPFUL! I feel that women, men or anyone who’s willing to seek God’s guidance can benefit from you book.” – Manni Lee, Associate Executive Director, Women of Wonder (WOW)
  • Waiting on God Well is an encouraging book that reminds us that we don’t have to put our life on hold while we wait upon God. The book reminds us that God has a purpose for us even in our season of waiting and is a sweet reminder that He is taking care of us and growing us even in difficult times. This book has been a huge blessing to me!” – Christina Phan, Connect Group Leader, Every Nation Church New York City

You can read and view more testimonies here. You can read past blog posts about the book here and watch a video greeting I did for readers here.

It wasn’t easy writing Waiting on God Well, but it was a necessary step in my journey. And if you’re following my faith journey, you’re getting to see some of the fruit and blessings that God is allowing in my life after this long season of waiting. All glory to God!

God is still writing my story. I look forward to sharing more with you as it unfolds!

I hope my story will encourage you that waiting on God is not in vain! God is working behind the scenes. Your breakthrough will come at its appointed time. God will not be one day too early or too late. He’ll be right on time!

If you’re free, I hope you’ll join me on Periscope this Wednesday at 12:30pm (EST) for Abounding Faith Today’s Midday Praise Break. Let’s celebrate this milestone! I’d love to hear how God is working in your life as well! If you can’t make it live, no worries. I’ll post the replay on Abounding Faith’s YouTube Channel.

Blessings to you and please keep the positive reviews coming on Amazon and please continue to tell others about Waiting on God Well. Help others as they go through their waiting seasons! Help them to see that waiting on God is worth it!

From Glory to Glory

sunset-907704_1920

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18)

We’ve made it to the last week of 2015! That’s cause to celebrate!

How did your year go? Was it filled with love, adventure, and laughter? Was it laced with tears, challenges, and disappointments?

However your year went, I pray that you felt God’s almighty hand and presence with you all throughout your days. I hope you stopped and enjoyed the miraculous and lovely in your life, even in those ordinary moments in your day.

As I grow in the Lord, I’m realizing that God really is closer than we think. He is there in the good and bad times. And He is working all things together for our good as He promised in Romans 8:28.

All of our experiences (including the good, the bad, and the downright ugly) are needed to help to conform us into the image of Christ. That’s God’s ultimate goal for us.

Can you look back on your year and say that you drew closer to Jesus these last 365 days? Can you say that you’re a little more like Him now? Are you a little more patient, loving, or compassionate? Have your trust and faith in God increased? Have you served others?

If so, rejoice!

If not, take heart. You can ask God for His strength and grace to start being more kind and loving today and to help you again tomorrow and beyond.

Isn’t it great that God’s mercies are new every morning? Aren’t you glad we get a fresh start in 2016?

None of us will ever fully “arrive” at perfection while here on earth. It will take our whole lifetime to become more like Jesus, but God is loving and patient with us and won’t give up on us! God is too good!

We become more like Jesus by spending time with Him in prayer and reading the Bible. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit empowers us to live like Jesus. Our transformation happens little by little, day by day, and one decision after another.

This year has been an epic year for me for many reasons. It wasn’t easy, but it was filled with so many blessings! It was beautiful to see how encouraged people were by my book Waiting on God Well. If you’re going through a desert or winter season, I encourage you to read or re-read it!

And if you’re ready to make changes in the new year, than I invite you to learn how to have me as your Life Coach. I want to help you live out your God-given passion and purpose. I will be announcing more over the upcoming weeks so please stay tuned!

Thank you again for all of your support this year! I look forward to what’s ahead in 2016! The best is yet to come! Believe!

More than a Book Launch Party

11070525_437335273096531_2024640487754152317_n

After all the writing and editing, and after all the prayer and planning, the day finally came for my launch event for my new book Waiting On God Well.

It’s going to take me a bit to process everything and to describe how special Saturday night was for me. But I wanted to take a moment to publically thank every single person who attended my book launch and for those who were praying for the success of the event and the book.

One of the best ways I could describe it was surreal. I had family members there mixed with a friend I’ve known since kindergarten, dear friends from high school and college, a close co-worker, and my lovely church family and co-laborers in Christ. I was so excited every time one of my friends walked through the door.

While I was blessed to get to share a bit about my writing background and my faith journey with my guests, I was also delighted to see my friends mingling together. I was so touched to hear the kind words they shared about our friendship.

My friends are a mini United Nations and come from such diverse backgrounds, but I love that we can find common ground and have stayed in contact after all these years.

Writing can be such a solitary process, but oh the joy there is in getting to share the finished product with your friends and family. These memories will last a lifetime. I’m so thankful to God for allowing this part of my waiting process to be fulfilled!

A giant Thank You to all my volunteers!  The night would not have been the same without you!

Have you read Waiting on God Well? I look forward to hearing your thoughts. If it blessed you, please leave a kind review and rating on Amazon. Thank you in advance!

What are You Waiting on God for?

alarm-clock-590383_1280

I think we can all relate to having to wait on God for something. What are you waiting for? A breakthrough in your personal life, career, or ministry? Perhaps you’re waiting to reconcile with a wayward loved one.

It would be great if we could have instant breakthroughs all the time, right? That’s wishful thinking though.

Yes, God delights in giving us the desires of our heart but in His perfect timing. So it’s so important how we wait on God to deliver us or to unfold His plan for us each step of the way.

It takes courage and strength to wait on God instead of running ahead of Him or spending our time grumbling and complaining.

I’d like to help you make the most of your seasons of waiting. That’s why I wrote the book Waiting on God Well: How to Prevent Breaking Down on Your Way to Your Breakthrough! The book, which is available on Amazon, has tips, Bible verses, and action steps to help you get through your wilderness seasons.

I’m delighted to share this book with you. I’m even in the midst of gearing up to have a launch party and book signing. It all seems a bit surreal, but it’s also part of the promises that God has given to me. It’s taken longer than I thought, but it’s here. And so it’s time to celebrate!

I pray that you will have much to celebrate as well. God is Good and He has a Good plan for His children. I pray that you will be encouraged by my book and by my blog posts.

Walking by faith isn’t easy, but it is worth it!

Your life may not be making much sense right now, but take heart that God is Sovereign, He is in Control, and He’s working things out for your good. Blessings to you as you take faith step by faith step into your destiny.

A Taste of Waiting on God Well

cover (1)

I’m delighted to share the foreword for my new book Waiting on God Well. I pray it will encourage you. There’s so much packed into this short book. I hope you’ll grab your copy today. I pray that you will be blessed as you wait for God to fulfill His promises in your life.

Foreword

Maybe it’s because I’m a native New Yorker. Or perhaps it’s because of the generation I was born in. It could be because I’m a dreamer who enjoys setting goals and a doer who delights in achieving those goals. Whatever the reason is, when it comes to certain areas of my life, one of the worst four-letter words that I hear is simply, “Wait.”

It’s just not an easy concept for me to swallow.

Please don’t get me wrong. I’m generally not an impatient person who has to be first at everything. I don’t go driving around with road rage or elbowing people out of my way on the train. Again, as a city girl, I’m all too familiar with having to stand in long lines or sit in traffic. I don’t mean that kind of waiting.

I’m talking about when you have hopes and dreams, desires and promises that you’re waiting on God to fulfill. I’m referring to the types of longings that you can’t make happen on your own. Those are the biggies in life.

At one point or another in our lives, we all have to struggle with waiting on God. Maybe you’re there right now.

What are You Waiting for?
Are you waiting to land that dream job or to meet your spouse? Praying for an unsaved loved one to receive Jesus? Believing for a healing or a miracle to be manifested? Hoping
your significant other will have a change of heart? Wondering when a door will open for a new ministry opportunity? Trusting to have a child? Perhaps all of the above?

I’m finally coming out of a long season where everything in my life seemed stagnant. Not just for days or weeks, but for years! Sure, I saw blessings here and there; but, oh, how I felt like my life was at a standstill. I couldn’t shake the feeling that someone had pressed pause on my life story. It was as if I were forgotten on the backside of the desert tending sheep like David or Moses.

Ever been there?

In the midst of this dry season, I would spend hours dreaming and scheming about my next moves and talking the ears off of trusted friends and loved ones. Surely, God didn’t want me to just sit around and do nothing! Clearly, I had to act quickly. Certainly, I needed to devise a plan of action! Not so.

It was around that time that I was getting desperate enough to make some sort of move. I went to visit a well-known church in my area.

The pastor stunned me as he said from the pulpit that he felt the Lord didn’t want him to preach the same sermon that he had shared in the earlier service. He proceeded to share a brief message about how King Saul grew impatient and took matters into his own hands while waiting for the prophet Samuel to return to the city of Gilgal to make the required offerings (1 Samuel 13: 6-14). He waited seven days, the time set by Samuel, but Samuel didn’t come, and Saul’s army started to scatter out of fear. So Saul broke God’s commandment and offered up the burnt offering. Just as he finished making the offering, Samuel arrived and rebuked him. As a result, God rejected Saul as king.

The pastor asked the congregation if we wanted to know what God wanted us to do. I leaned in real close to make sure I didn’t miss this divine message. The pastor stated, “Wait!”

I sat there dumbfounded. God could not have spoken more clearly to me that day. The pastor gave an altar call, and I sheepishly made my way to the front of the church with the others. He prayed that God would give us the “faith that waits.” What a concept! I’m more used to having the faith to go. Asking God for the faith to wait was so foreign to me.

But there I was at the altar surrounded by a sea of people in a similar valley. Over and over again, the choir softly sang the words, “Trust Me. Trust Me.”

I left service that day with peace. I was reminded that God was in control. But now what? What does waiting on God really mean? What was a go-getter like me supposed to do during this nebulous time of waiting?

During this season, all I heard was that God had many wonderful plans for me. Exciting! But I had no idea how any of them would come about. The only words of comfort I heard God speak to me directly and through others were, “Believe,” and “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6).

If God had told me to jump on a plane and go back to visit the Amazon or Africa, at least that would have been some direction. But time and time again, all I heard was to, “W-A-I-T.”

What do You do as You Wait on God?
That question stumped me. I wondered if I were missing some gene. Why was it so hard to wait for further instructions? I read books and blogs and listened to sermons about why God asks us to wait. I prayed, asking God to reveal the answers to me. He did give me glimpses and encouragement along the way. In the end, there’s no getting around it. When God says wait, He means it. So it makes such a difference how we wait.

I’m writing this book not as some expert or scholar who has this whole waiting thing down. I’m writing as a fellow pilgrim who is also on a faith journey. I’ve learned many lessons along the way and would like to share some of them with you.

It’s during these wilderness seasons that we can have a complete meltdown and become bitter, angry or depressed. Perhaps even stop dreaming and turn our back on God.

Or we can press in.

That’s right. We can choose to run to God, lean on Him, trust Him, and purpose in our hearts to wait on God no matter how long it takes.

That is easier said than done though. If you’re reading this, then my guess is you’re also finding it a challenge to wait on God. My hope is that this book will help you and encourage you while you wait.

Waiting is not passive. It’s not for the weak, but for the strong. It takes strength and courage to wait for God to give you the green light. It’s not about having a blasé attitude.

Instead, it’s about expecting God to come through in His perfect timing and open doors that no man can shut. It’s taking God at His Word and believing that He will do exactly what He has promised to do!

My prayer is that you won’t despise the process you are going through, but that you will look for Jesus, even in the tight places, because He is right there with you. He is leading, guiding, and loving you. He has not forsaken you! He will bring you through.

And when you come out of whatever valley or barren place you are in, you will be stronger, wiser, and more secure in your relationship with Jesus. A blessing beyond measure! You will be able to look back and thank God for loving you enough to not take you the easy route, but the way that stretched you and tested you, brought healing to you and helped you to grow, and allowed you to see the miraculous hand of God in your life. I pray that you will come out a living, breathing testimony to the faithfulness of our God.

Remember that God really does work everything together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). That means everything may not be good right now, but just watch how God will use your experiences to make something beautiful. What the enemy means for evil God can turn for good (Genesis 50:20)!

In the end, drawing closer to Jesus is the best gift we could ever receive. It’s better than whatever it is we are waiting for.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

So many times I’ve written here about waiting on God’s timing. Now I’m sharing how to wait. We all go through dry seasons in our lives. Times where we feel like we’ve been forgotten in the back side of the desert.

What are you waiting on God for?  To move, get married, be healed, become a parent or to have a wayward child come home?

I pray this ebook will encourage you to not quit in the middle of your journey! It’s always too early to give up on the dreams God has given you.

As 2014 winds down, I must say this has been a year of joy! It started with Moving Forward and launching my website AboundingFaith.com and included a short-term missions trip to Peru and winning Our Daily Bread’s Facebook Contest for Readers. Now it’s ending with my ebook. Glory!

Thank you for taking this journey with me! Here’s a little peek at what things looked like earlier this year as I was getting my manuscript ready:

I wasn’t sure if I could get everything finished by the end of the year, but the Lord opened the door and I walked through it.

I’m already praying about what’s next. I’m excited about what’s to come.

I pray you will end the year strong knowing that God loves you and is with you! Let’s see what the Lord has in store in 2015!

If you read my ebook and like it, please leave a review and rating on the site you buy it from. Blessings to you and as always, thanks for reading!
